Jamaica Basketball: The Road to Qatar 2027

February 11, 2026

To the fans, the community, and every supporter of Jamaican excellence:

We are standing at a historic crossroads in our nation’s athletic journey. After eighty years of “blood, sweat, and tears,” the JamRockers – our senior men’s national basketball team – have reached the qualifiers stage for the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup. This is a historic first-ever berth opportunity for Jamaica to compete among the top 32 teams in the world in Doha, Qatar.

Basketball is one of the fastest-growing sports globally, and here in Jamaica, its potential is limitless. From providing life-changing scholarships to creating new job opportunities for our youth, this sport can do so much for our country if it is promoted and supported properly.

The Team Behind the Dream

Our success is built on the strategic leadership of Head Coach and National Coordinator Rick Turner and his dedicated staff: Rohan Robinson, Kyle Plank, Russ Schoene, Cleon Morgan, Omar Parker III, and Damion Sullivan.

They lead a talented roster of warriors ready to represent the black, green, and gold:

The Core: Joel Bailey, Drew Thelwell, Marcus McDonald, Omari Johnson, Jordan Kellier, Kentan Facey, Romaine Thomas, Chase Audige, Giovanni Fraser, Tyran DeLattibeaudiere, and Romario Gill.

The Powerhouse: Kofi Cockburn (added for qualifiers).

The Global Impact: We are also proud of our high-profile players and those working through eligibility, including Norman Powell, Nick Richards, Josh Minott, Devin Vassell, Amen Thompson, Ausar Thompson, and Isaiah Stewart.

A Message on Unity and Purpose

As many of you know, I recently shared a video intended to celebrate this journey. I made an error in judgment regarding a specific clip, which led to an interpretation different from what I intended. I have since removed and corrected that content, and I have personally apologized to those I may have inadvertently disrespected.

It is disappointing that a single mistake has drawn focus away from the main message, but I will not let negativity or memes distract from the goal. This mission is bigger than any one person – it is about the maturation of our sport and the elevation of Jamaica’s profile in the global community.

Let’s look past the noise, ignore the negativity, and get behind the JamRockers as they bring it home to Kingston.
